Fecal Microbiome Restorative Therapy
Microbiome Restorative Therapy (MBRT) is a therapeutic procedure that restores balance to the intestinal microbiome by transferring beneficial microorganisms from a carefully screened, healthy donor to a recipient animal.
The gastrointestinal tract contains trillions of bacteria that play a vital role in digestion, immune function, and overall health. When this microbial balance becomes disrupted, due to illness, stress, antibiotics, or chronic disease, MBRT can help re-establish a healthy, diverse microbial community.
In veterinary medicine, FMT is most commonly used in dogs and cats with chronic diarrhea, inflammatory bowel disease, antibiotic-responsive enteropathies, or other forms of chronic enteropathy that have not fully responded to conventional therapies.
New research shows that the gut microbiome plays an important role not only in digestion, but also in immune balance, skin health, and even behavior through the gut–brain connection.
MBRT is performed using rigorously screened donor material (from Dr. Margo Roman’s ‘Generation of Dog’) to reduce the risk of transmitting infectious agents. Our goal is to use evidence-based approaches to support restoration of normal gut function and improve your animal’s overall quality of life.
MBRT therapy is enhanced by rectal ozone, appropriate prebiotics, and gastro intestinal supplements.
